Can you explain the difference between wool and merino wool?
Both are natural animal fibers that vary in characteristics and texture. Tibetan wool comes from the fleece of Tibetan goats that live at high altitudes. The fibers are long, strong and rich in lanolin. Merino wool comes from the Merino sheep and produces finer, softer fibers.
Can you explain the difference between real silk and bamboo silk?
They both have a soft, lustrous sheen in appearance, but different in origin and durability. Real silk is a natural protein fiber from silkworm cocoons in China. It has long fibers, natural elasticity, and high strength. Real silk is considered highly luxurious and long lasting with proper care. Bamboo silk is not made from silk at all. It’s a semi synthetic fiber made from the bamboo stalk. It is less durable than real silk and suggested in low traffic settings.
What is the difference between handknotted and handtufted rugs?
Handknotted rugs are made by tying individual knots by hand around warp threads (anywhere from 40 to 300 knots per square inch). The lifespan can last for generations and usually requires a longer lead-time of roughly 5-6 months. No backing or glue is needed. See our craftsmanship page to learn more. While a handtufted rug is made using a handheld tufting gun that punches yarn into a canvas. Then finished by securing with a latex glue backing. The lifespan is over 10 years if used in a low traffic setting and cared for well.
What are all the fibers available in the handtufted collection?
We work with real silk, dull silk, delicate silk, shiny nylon, silky nylon, wool, semi worsted wool, and bamboo silk.
The rug I ordered is not the exact color shown on the website. Why is this?
Although our images represent the most accurate color possible, due to monitor/screen settings, there may be variations in color between the actual product and what you see online. It is always best before ordering a full-size rug to order a sample to see in person. Due to the hand-dying process, humidity, and different batches of dyes used a slight variation is common.
The rug I ordered is not the exact size I ordered. Why is this?
Dimensions may vary from the published size due to the natural variation that exists in the manufacturing process. Up to a few inches plus or minus the advertised size is very common and expected, especially in handknotted rugs.
What are the lead-times?
1. Handknotted rugs can be 5-6 months. Handtufted averages around 8-12 weeks. A custom 1’x1’ strike-off is between 4-8 weeks. Please note, larger size rugs, stairs, and custom rugs require additional lead-times.
