craftsmanship – NOVA RUDE

Craftsmanship

Our handknotted area rugs about 50-60 craftsman and woman go into the making of a single rug. Using only the finest wool from Tibetan sheep high in the Himalayas each rug is naturally rich in lanolin, a natural stain resistant. The yarn gets hand carded, handspun, and dyed using Swiss dyes known for being some of the highest quality on the market known for their precision, consistency, and performance in color and fading resistance. Simultaneously, they paint a sketch the size of the rug, so they know where to weave the intricacies of each design. About four to five different craftswomen sit side by side weaving 100 knots every square inch. The final stage is the washing, drying, and cutting the pile by hand for each rug. By mixing centuries old artisanship with the highest quality materials, we are sure a rug can last for generations to come.
